LOCATION:

We would have a centralized location and smaller satellite locations.  Our main location would be our central shelter where meals and beds would be provided, its outlined in the graphic above.  Our satellite locations would offer those same amenities but on a smaller scale concentrating on social work case management, jobs, and mental health.  Transportation would be offered between locations.

WHAT IS THE ISSUE YOU ARE ADdRESSING?

We are working to tackle the homelessness issue with an approach that would take a larger-scale approach. For our water aspect we would concentrate on bioswales using local vegetation this will eliminate a lot of debris and pollution.

GOAL:

To help manage the homeless population by adding a free temporary housing option along central, where the homeless population tends to be concentrated while also providing assistance to this at-risk population. While also making sure that as New Mexicans we are managing and mitigating our usage of water so that we can help with the absorption of water into the ground and slow down the flow of water.

PLAN:

  • Set up base location and work with the population to find the most needed services

  • Establish satellite locations to meet more specific needs like mental health services and job services

  • In the construction process, use bioswales and potentially permeable concrete to help the slow of water

  • Establish a partnership with the City of Albuquerque that allows for free transportation between locations

  • Help establish public works projects in the process that allows homeless people to not only have jobs but be involved in the design process

  • Progressively allow more autonomy and eventual full reintegration into society
